 Ben Vautier
«Art=Ben»

Ben Vautier’s art, most notably realized in the 1960s in the context of Fluxus Art, showcases a theoretical confrontation with the mechanism of art, the art market, and how art is received. Many of his works consist of labeled plates bearing absolute statements: «I, Ben, I sign everything,» «I don’t sign anymore,» «Everything is Art,» «The Absence of Art = Art,» or simply «Ben = Art». This makes him, conceptually as well as practically, an important forerunner of Performance Art and of an expanded concept of art.
