 Robert Morris

b. February 9, 1931 in Kansas City / Missouri (USA); 1948—50 studies at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, and at the Kansas City Art Institute; 1951 at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, and 1952—54 at the Reed College in Portland/Oregon. 1955—60 creates his first paintings; works with experimental theater and film. 1961—63 studies at Hunter College, New York, completes his dissertation on Brancusi, creates his first sculptures. 1963—65 dancer and choreographer. 1964 creates minimalist sculptures and his first «Earthworks». Beginning 1967 professorship at Hunter College.
In the 1960s Morris worked as a conceptualist and minimalist, and later in a Duchamp-like style. Beginning 1975 Morris became a ‹neo-Gothic maximalist› and symbolist.
