The WDR radio station studio headed by Klaus Schöning is primarily devoted to intermedia sound productions. Independently from the antipodal ideas of musique concrète and elektronic music in the studios in Paris and Cologne, the radio play studio of WDR 3 in Cologne began broadcasing on Jan. 3, 1963 under the title «Radio Play in the 3rd Program», meanwhile developing into one of the international centers of Ars Acustica entwickelt. At the end of the 1960s, the title was changed ton WDR3-HörSpielStudio (Radio Play Studio) and, in 1991, to Studio Akustische Kunst.
