* 1948 Tokyo (J); educated at St Paul’s University in Tokyo; left Japan in 1970 in order to study photography at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles; lives and works in New York (USA). Sugimoto has spoken of his photographic series as of ‹time exposed›, a theme evident in all his works.
