b 1946 in New York (USA); 1963-73 studies in architecture and and town planning; 1973-76 studied video/ electronic editing at the New School for Social Research, New York; 1978 gave lectures at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax (CDN). Since the late seventies, Dara Birnbaum deals artistically with the TV-medium. (with TV as an artistic medium). She analyzes the superficial impact, the forms of expression and the manipulative effect of mass media; lives and works in New York (USA).
